The project started 3 months ago, and some journalists from Pixelmacher (ZDF Kultur) went in our office to do a small documentary. So, if you are curious about it, you can see some old shots of the project and our developers/artists working on it :)
The goal of this new sequel of ARDefender is to introduce a multiplayer experience in augmented reality. Our focus was to add a lot of content and a much deeper gameplay to develop a strong AR game that is not only a technical demo. There is plenty of ennemies and various weapons with upgrades. We also added 6 heroes that you can control into your real environnement.
The date is “when it’s done” as usual ;)
All the int13 team is proud to announce that we’re releasing our second title today, after ARDefender (which was downloaded over 500,000 times on iOS, Android and Bada).
Our team is mostly specialized in AR games but we wanted to try something completely different with a tribute to a genre we’d really like to see more often on Smartphones : good old arcade shoot’em up, also known as Bullet Hell or manic shooters.
Shogun was inspired by some of the best titles of what is considered the golden age of the genre: the Japanese arcade games of the nineties.
Here is the opinion of Jared Nelson of TouchArcade, who had the opportunity to test a preview build : “The game is absolutely gorgeous in person, the video doesn’t quite do it justice. The gameplay is also really solid, offering most of the bullet-hell conventions you would expect as well as a few twists on the formula to differentiate itself from the pack. “
As shmups fans ourselves, our goal was primarily to create a game that we wanted to play, we think that the genre is particularly well suited to Smartphones screens and we also felt that the supply is too narrow, too expensive and targeted only at hardcore fans.
About the price, we chose to create only one free package with in-app purchases, so downloading the game is free and the first mission is free as well, we think this is the best we can do in the spirit of “try before you buy”.
Independant missions are priced at $0.99 and the whole package can be bought at a discounted $2.
Shogun is an Universal iOS app, with native HD resolution on the iPad, the game is also iCade compatible.
The Android version will be available very shortly this week, and Bada in version will be available in about 2-3 weeks.
Also note the music from Xavier & Sylvain, a mixture of “French touch” electro-rock.
The game is available here: http://itunes.apple.com/app/shogun/id485759932
The website (with leaderboard a cross-platform) is here:
No need to pinch yourself, you’re not dreaming! Yes, ARDefender is finally available on Android 2.1 and up! Given the huge number of Android devices, we weren’t able to test the camera on all of them!
To celebrate, take a look at the new trailer! Tell us what you think.
We just finished the developement of our new game engine, and to celebrate this achievement we decided to create a special edition of ARDefender for Halloween.
Here is what’s new in this version (dubbed 1.5.1)
* New engine, first time you’ll see an AR game running at 60 FPS on any platform!
* Halloween edition (the classic mode is also included)
* 22 Achievements
* New upgrades (Defense Drone and Armaggedon)
* New sound engine, with AR based positional sounds
* Game Save
* New towers to unlock
* Much improved level design
* The game is now an Universal App, it works very well on iPad2 with a big marker
Now that our new engine is done, you’ll get a lot more news from us in the coming months, we have a lot of exciting stuff to show.
We were showing a technical demo of the Pantheon in Augmented Reality on iPad during an event in Paris. Here is some pictures.
Using Int13 Arwiz technology. It was 6 months of development (software & technology) and our first big project that is not a game.
A new design and a new start.
We’re back with a new website, more focused on games.
We know that we’re a bit behind schedule. As promised we’re releasing an update of ARDefender, on iPhone and Android.
Kweekies is still only available for bada devices, but we’re working on a new and enhanced version of the game.
But we had to re-program our internal engine to work with OpenGL ES, and it was about 8 months of work (still in progress).
When Stephane (the big boss) started to write uEngine, there was no OpenGL and no accelerated graphics on mobile devices. It was necessary to rewrite all this part.
First, we will release our new version of ARDefender. A free update of course, including HD graphics, an armageddon, a drone to help you to shoot enemies, a save button, achievements, new languages and a few surprises.
Target devices: iPhone, iPad, and later Android (1 month of work, the Android port is nearly ready but we still need to do a lot of testing).
Kweekies is still in progress, I really can’t say when it will be released, so please stop asking us :) We won’t sell the game until we think it’s fun, because we’ve devoted too much time to this project to finally release a game that is ok but forgettable.
